Overview

Engineers in the Ship Signatures Department are responsible for ensuring that the ship's components, systems and structures are designed and built to meet a submarine's challenging radiated noise requirements.

Ship Signatures engineers working in the Advanced Concepts group are involved in research to extend the state-of-the-art in advanced noise control technology and acoustic analysis methods, and to develop concepts for noise control of current and future submarine designs. Engineers in this group have knowledge in the areas of finite elements, structures, electronic instrumentation and measurements, electronic component design, acoustic theory, signal processing, and system engineering, among others.

Responsibilities

Skills:

  • Self-starter and quick learner
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and meet project schedule requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MATLAB scripting language (i.e. syntax, flow control, functions, built-in libraries, etc.)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering,or a related STEM discipline from an accredited college/university
  • Less than 3 years of relevent engineering experience
  • Coursework and/or experience in vibrations and programming
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • An active SECRET clearance, or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
Preferred:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience which includes but is not limited to: acoustics, linear vibrations, controls (classic, modern, digital, and robust), structural dynamics, finite element analysis (FEA), signal processing, filter design, digital system design, linear electronics, and circuits
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, LabView, and/or other computational modeling tools and programming languages
