About Michigan By The Bottle Tasting Room (MBTB)

Michigan By The Bottle Tasting Room isn’t just a place to sip wine, it’s where wine meets community, and hospitality meets heart. With locations in Shelby Township, Royal Oak, and Auburn Hills (and Lake Orion opening in November), MBTB brings together wines from multiple top-tier Michigan wineries under one roof. The Role: Wine Steward

Wine Stewards are the friendly, knowledgeable faces of MBTB. You’ll welcome guests, share the stories behind Michigan wine, and help create memorable experiences. In addition to providing warm hospitality, you’ll play an active role in promoting sales of wine, food, merchandise, and wine club memberships. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to learn more about wine.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Welcome guests warmly and foster a friendly, inviting atmosphere
•  Guide guests through wine flights, food offerings, and merchandise with confidence and enthusiasm
•  Provide knowledgeable recommendations and wine education tailored to guest preferences
•  Promote wine and merchandise sales, as well as wine club memberships, through positive guest interactions and upselling strategies
•  Accurately and efficiently process transactions (cash and electronic payments) using the POS system
•  Prepare and serve food items according to proper handling and presentation standards
•  Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting tasting room, including restrooms and service areas
•  Enforce responsible service policies (ID checks, cutoff/refusal protocols) and document incidents when required
•  Assist with events, private tastings, and promotions as needed

What We’re Looking For:

Must-Haves:
•  Outgoing personality with strong customer service and communication skills
•  Interest in wine and willingness to learn and share knowledge with guests
•  Reliability, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a lively setting
•  Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
•  Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods

Bonus Points:
•  Previous hospitality, retail, or serving experience
•  Familiarity with Michigan wines and the local wine scene
•  Interest in wine education (WSET, sommelier, or similar training)
•  General wine knowledge
