This position is designated as part-time with night shifts with some weekend and holiday shifts. The work schedule will include at least 64 hours per two-week pay period and may include additional work hours based on business needs. Employees will receive a shift differential of $2.75 per hour for all hours worked between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am.
A correctional health care nurse practices in a primary care setting much like a clinic or transitional care unit. The nurse is presented with opportunities to use a full range of nursing skills along with broad knowledge of disease processes. The nurse works closely with other health care providers, including primary care physicians and mid-level practitioners, and ensures that individuals receive needed healthcare in a manner that does not compromise nor conflict with security issues within the correctional facility.
This position assists in the provision of individual health care; assists in the medication process; assists with other functions as delegated by the charge nurse/supervisor; maintains a system for accurate and thorough medical record keeping; provides health education; and maintains adequate inventory and security of medical supplies and equipment.

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
